July Movie Mini-view

See these new entries added right to Stoski’s Ultimate Movie Ratings Guide. Mostly newer movies this month, but a diverse range of genres are, as always, represented.

Prince of Egypt beautifully retells the story of Genesis (Moses, splitting the Red Sea, etc), a wonderful adventure for the religious and non-religious alike. The animation and art direction brings the familiar story to life. Also; Game Night is good and Jason Bateman is a great actor. You should watch it.

Anon (2018)

Imagine a futuristic world without devices; no smartphones, no laptops, no screens of any kind. Instead, computing is all done in the cloud and displayed on the users contact lenses. Anonymity and privacy are dead thanks to the ‘always on and recording’ nature of this system, referred to as the “Minds Eye”. A relatively safe and transparent world, until an unknown individual (Amanda Seyfried)  begins their murder spree, illegally editing the victim’s Mind’s Eye records, and vanishing without a trace. A detective with a troubled past (Clive Owen) soon catches on to the scam and the chase is on.

Justice League (2017)

Justice League is a serviceable film. Not great, not good, just ‘okay’. Better than Batman vs. Superman, which I rated a paltry 2 stars, but not nearly as good as [film that you would actually enjoy watching]. I saw Justice League on a plane, and had it not been available at that time, then I’d not be able to tell anyone about how mediocre it is – because I’m not about to waste any of my free time watching such pedestrian trash.

Justice League is a movie that you watch if it’s there, but you don’t go out of your way to see it. If you haven’t seen it, don’t bother. Let it come to you. Unless you like half-assed, teenage-grade-edgy bootleg Marvel movies, that is.
